ICONE DI LUCE
Le Icone di luce sono il risultato di un doppio processo: la luce stessa che genera l'immagine fotografica distrugge quella pittorica. Del quadro originale rimangono così visibili solo la cornice prospettica e la superficie pittorica, mentre la luce diventa il vero soggetto della rappresentazione.
Esse vengono realizzate attraverso riprese fotografiche dirette eseguite in chiese e musei, utilizzando esclusivamente la luce ambiente. Le forme delle icone sono dettate dalle angolature delle riprese e la prospettiva finale dell'opera è la materializzazione di quella fotografica.
ICONS OF LIGHT
Light is the subject and the medium of these works. The same light that lights up the original oil paintings in churches the museums, enables us to see and photograph them, at the same time blanks out the identity of their subjects. The ambiguity between the light reflected by the original pictures and the light apparently reflected by the photographs challenges our notions of looking and seeing.
The simultaneous process of generation and destruction of an image represented by the Icons of Light questions the controversial relationship between painting and photography and becomes a metaphor for the relationship between time and light.
